Police escort required for permitted gross weights over 200,000 lbs.

Police escort required for overall lengths over 160'.
- Lead (front) pilot carover 100'0" length
Front AND rear pilot required for overall lengths over 100' on all routes.
- Chase (rear) pilot carover 100'0" length
Front AND rear pilot required for overall lengths over 100' on all routes.
- Chase (rear) pilot carover 80'0" length
Rear pilot car required for overall lengths over 80' on 2-lane highways (17 NYCRR Part 154).
- Police / law-enforcement escortover 16'0" width
Police escort required in addition to civilian pilots for widths over 16' (17 NYCRR Part 154).
- Lead (front) pilot carover 16'0" width
Front AND rear pilot required on ALL route types (2-lane and divided) for widths over 16'.
- Chase (rear) pilot carover 16'0" width
Front AND rear pilot required on ALL route types for widths over 16'.
- Lead (front) pilot carover 12'0" width
Front pilot car required for widths over 12' on 2-lane highways (17 NYCRR Part 154). Pilot must be NYS-certified.
- Chase (rear) pilot carover 12'0" width
Rear pilot car required for widths over 12' on 4+ lane divided highways (17 NYCRR Part 154).
- Police / law-enforcement escortover 16'0" height
Police escort required in addition to civilian pilot for heights over 16'.
- Lead (front) pilot carover 14'0" height
Front pilot with height pole required for heights over 14' on all routes.
- Height-pole escortover 14'0" height
Lead pilot car must carry a height pole for loads over 14' high (17 NYCRR Part 154).
- Lead (front) pilot carover 10'0" front overhang front overhang
Front pilot required when front overhang exceeds 10' (17 NYCRR Part 154).
- Chase (rear) pilot carover 10'0" rear overhang rear overhang
Rear pilot required when rear overhang exceeds 10' (17 NYCRR Part 154).
Travel restrictions
- Daylight-only travelover 8'6" width
Permitted oversize movement: Mon–Fri 1/2 hr before sunrise to 1/2 hr after sunset; Sat until noon. No Sunday travel for loads over 12' wide or 72'+ long.
- Weekend / holiday restrictionover 8'6" width
No Sunday travel. No movement on New Year's, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas (extended blackouts per permit).
Driver & inspection requirements
- Certified escort driver requiredover 12'0" width
All escort drivers must hold New York State certification (17 NYCRR Part 154).
